Michael Bunker
Michael Bunker is a USA Today Bestselling author, renaissance man, off-grid expert, husband, and father of four children. He’s the mixologist at Lucille + Mabel restaurant, rolls cigars, makes bourbon, writes books…and occasionally tilts at windmills. In November of 2015, Variety Magazine announced that Michael had sold a film/tv option for his bestselling novel Pennsylvania to Jorgensen Pictures. JP is currently developing Pennsylvania for production into a feature film. Hollywood heavyweight and Production Design superstar Patrick Tatopoulos (Independence Day, Maleficent 2, the 300, iRobot) is slated to direct the Pennsylvania feature film. Michael currently has two film options working in Hollywood.
Michael has been called the “father” of the Amish/Scifi genre but that isn’t all that he writes. He is the author of several popular and acclaimed works of dystopian sci-fi, including the Amazon top 20 overall bestselling Amish Sci-fi thriller Pennsylvania, the groundbreaking dystopian vision Hugh Howey called “a brilliant tale of extra-planetary colonization.” He also has written the epic post-apocalyptic novel WICK, the Amish/Robot thriller Brother, Frank, as well as many nonfiction works including the non-fiction Amazon overall top 30 national bestseller Surviving Off Off-Grid. Michael was hired by Amazon.com through their Kindle Worlds and Kindle Serials programs to write the first ever commissioned novel set in the World of Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle.
Michael has been featured on NPR, HuffPost Live, Molly Green, and Ozy.com, along with hundreds of print, radio, and podcast interviews. He’s very pleased to be offering regular columns to BrownwoodNews.com.

MICHAEL BUNKER: The Overton Window
The term “Overton Window” is a way of describing how and where political ideas fall in the spectrum of acceptability and how the overall window moves through time. Ideas that once were considered “outside the window of possibility” become

Sometimes when you’re in the middle of a thing you don’t recognize how special it is. We’d come out of the cold spell and the weather was back to being nice, perfect for me. 50s to 70s,
MICHAEL BUNKER: One Night in December
Maybe you’ve heard about it, but if you haven’t heard about it from a time traveler, then maybe you aren’t paying close enough attention. You see, when a time traveler tells you something, there is always a
MICHAEL BUNKER: Time Travel Ramblings
I don’t expect everyone to understand this and some of you may need to put your fingers in your ears as you read to keep your brains from leaking out because it might get confusing. My goal
A Very Cool Thing
Woo is it cold! Not really bad, though. It’s seasonal, but sometimes in the middle of November, cool is sometimes on the menu. The first freeze of the season came in the other morning, and it was
MICHAEL BUNKER: Downtown: A Followup
On Sunday I wrote a column about Downtown Brownwood that went a little bit viral. That column was titled You Have it All Wrong and it was about how some people with an axe to grind, and
MICHAEL BUNKER: You Have it All Wrong
“All they’re doing downtown is putting in bars and drinking establishments.” Hogwash. The problem with this nonsense is that it is so easily disproved that the person saying it has to be either ignorant or lying. As
MICHAEL BUNKER: Light a fire
This is not a lament. It is an encouragement. You’ll see. In my unpublished novel FUTURITY, the main character (a gamer and physics student) learns to time travel into the future. His desire is to eventually jump
