The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Thursday morning:
On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop in the 600 block of West Commerce on a vehicle and identified the driver as 35-year-old Payden Blaine Blackburn of Brownwood. Blackburn has been a person of interest in several recent burglary and narcotic cases.
A criminal investigation commenced and Blackburn was escorted to his residence. At this location, Adult Probation and officers met with Blackburn who admitted to possessing drug paraphernalia in his home. A search was conducted, and several items of drug paraphernalia were located along with a usable amount of suspected Methamphetamine. Given the discovery of the illegal narcotic material, Blackburn was arrested.
After being arrested, Blackburn became combative and frantic, not wanting to go to jail. Blackburn began to resist and pull from the officers and on several occasions kicked them until officers were able to gain control.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Blackburn was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1, Assault on a Peace Officer, and Resisting Arrest.
