Barry Wayne Chaney

Barry Wayne Chaney, 63, of Star, TX passed away Feb. 28, 2022 in Arlington, TX of lung failure due to complications from Covid pneumonia.

Born January 31, 1959 in Snyder, TX to Maxie and Gloria (Sheldon) Chaney. He grew up in Snyder with his sister, Teresa (Chaney) Moore and after marrying the love of his life, Denby (Mathis) Chaney, they moved to Ira, TX. There they raised two daughters, Machea and Monika, before moving to Aransas Pass, TX and then moving back to the family homestead in Star, TX. Barry worked in the oilfield running a backhoe and dump truck service, worked as a mechanic and ran heavy equipment for Mills County before retirement. He was known for his custom knife making and always being available to help a friend in need. Barry enjoyed hunting, fishing, drag boat racing and taking back roads for weekend road trips.

He is survived by: wife Denby Chaney (Star, TX), daughter Machea Hernandez and husband Gabriel (Allen,TX), sister Teresa Moore and husband Tommy (Hermleigh, TX),

Six grandchildren Katlyn (Goldthwaite, TX), Ariana and Analisa (Elgin, TX), Brooke and Ethan (Allen, TX) and Shelby (Star, TX). Several nieces, one nephew, aunts, one uncle and many cousins.

Barry was preceded in death by: Maxie and Gloria Chaney, Billie and John Nell Mathis, Monika Chaney and Bailey Hernandez.

He will be cremated and ashes will be held until his wife’s ashes are combined, then released together at their special locations. The Chaney family will hold a memorial service in his honor, at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 12th at the Star Fire Station, in Star, Texas.
