
EARLY – The Early Lady Horns chalked up a pair of victories on their home field to kick off their portion of the Battle on the Bayou softball tournament Friday.
First, the Lady Horns slipped past Coleman, 11-9, then Early crushed Hawley, 7-0.
In the victory over Coleman, Early jumped out to a 9-0 lead heading to the bottom of the second inning, where the Bluekatts tied the score. The Lady Horns added two more runs in the third inning to notch the victory.
Early finished with 13 hits as Marissa Reedy led the way with three and an RBI; Jordan Simmons added two and a team-high four RBIs; Aleeya McCombs doubled twice and drove in a pair; Kyleigh Caperton chipped in two hits including a solo home run; Sydney Greaves drove in a pair with one hit; Jamie Lyon finished with one hit and one RBI; and Andie Simpson and Tiffany Phelps also recorded a single apiece.
In the circle, Caperton and Greaves combined to allow six earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
Against Hawley, Caperton tossed a one-hit shutout with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Early offense scored four runs in the first inning and three in the fifth, and chalked up eight hits.
Simpson and Rylee Tupin both finished with two hits and a pair of RBIs, while Reedy, McCombs, Lyon and Phelps also notched hits. Greaves contributed an RBI.
The Lady Horns (3-0) wrap up tournament action Saturday against Winters at 10 a.m. and Hamlin at 2 p.m. on their home turf.
