
The Bangs Lady Dragons posted a 1-1 record in their first day of action at the Battle on the Bayou softball tournament at Brownwood High School.
The Lady Dragons hammered Shallowater, 11-1, in the second game Friday to improve to 7-1 on the season.
Bangs scored in every inning as Abby Wolf homered twice and drove in seven runs, while Julianna Ethridge also contributed a home run and tallied two RBIs. Neeley Bradley, Cheyenne Rush and Stormy Stringer each contributed two hits – and Bradley and Stringer each drove in a run – while Jaylee Valdez and Aubree Buford all added hits.
The Lady Dragons scored two runs in the first inning, four in the second, one in third, and four in the fourth.
In the circle, Wolf surrendered one run on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
The Lady Dragons suffered their first setback of the season to Class 4A Burnet, 3-0, in their opener at the Battle on the Bayou softball tournament.
All three runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the first inning as Hannah Brooks led off with a single and scored when Abby Bennight reached on two-out error, ahead of a two-run home run over the right-center field wall by Lacie Lewis
Wolf did not yield an earned run in the circle for Bangs as she allowed five hits with eight strikeouts and a pair of walks.
The Lady Dragons’ best chance to score came in the top of the third inning as Rush singled with one out, then Baker and Wolf reached on back-to-back walks to load the bases. The next two batters were retired, however, ending the threat.
Bradley also singled for Bangs in the first inning.
The Lady Dragons wrap up tournament play Saturday against Brownfield at 10 a.m. at the Massey Sports Complex and Goldthwaite at 4 p.m. in Early.
