How U.I.L. Classifications for 2020-2022 Affect Area Teams

Brownwood News – (by Mike Blagg) The Texas UIL Tuesday released the enrollment numbers for all Texas high schools and the cut-off lines between the various classifications.  The classifications will be defined as such:

Class 6A                  2220 and above

Class 5A Div. 1        1900 – 2219

Class 5A Div. 2        1210 – 1899

Class 4A Div. 1        865 – 1209

Class 4A Div. 2        515 – 864

Class 3A Div. 1        350 – 514

Class 3A Div. 2        230 – 349

Class 2A Div. 1        165.5 – 229

Class 2A Div. 2        105 – 165.4

Class 1A Div. 1        59.5 – 104.9

Class 1A Div. 2        59.4 and below

Brownwood will remain in Class 4A, Div. 1, with an enrollment of 973.  Also in our district of 5-4A, Stephenville (1061) and Waco La Vega (915) will remain in 4A, Div. 1.  There will be changes to the district, though, with Gatesville and China Spring moving down to Class 4A, Div. 2, both reporting enrollments of 851.

In District 3-3A, Div. 1, Early will remain in 3A Div. 1 with an enrollment of 368.  All other teams in District 3-3A will also remain, except for Eastland (339), which will move down to 3A, Div. 2.

Big changes to Bangs’ district 4-3A, Div. 2.  Bangs (270) will remain in 3A, Div. 2, as will Ballinger, Merkel, and San Angelo Grape Creek.  Moving down to Class 2A, Div. 1, however, will be Coleman (224), Cisco (223), and Anson (200).

Out of District 6-3A, Div. 2, Comanche (345) and Dublin (309) will stay in 3A, Div. 2, as will Jacksboro and Millsap.  Tolar (222), however, will move down to Class 2A, Div. 1, and Rio Vista (438) will move up to Class 3A, Div. 1.

In District 13-3A, Div. 2, Brady (312) will remain in 3A, Div. 2, along with Sonora and Ingram Moore.  Blanco (352) and Comfort (351) move up to 3A, Div. 1, and Johnson City (208) will drop down to Class 2A, Div. 1.

In District 7-2A, Div. 1, San Saba (201), DeLeon (203), and Goldthwaite (177) all stay in 2A, Div. 1 along with Crawford and Valley Mills.  Hico (145) will drop down to Class 2A, Div. 2.

There will be no changes to classifications for any of the teams in District 14-1A, Div. 1 (May, Santa Anna, Gorman, and Lingleville), District 15-1A, Div. 1 ( Zephyr, Lometa, Evant, and Jonesboro), District 15-1A, Div. 2 ( Blanket, Brookesmith, Mullin, Rising Star, and Sidney), and District 16-1A, Div. 2 (Richland Springs, Rochelle, Cherokee, Lohn, and Panther Creek.)

Cross Plains, currently in District 7-2A, Div. 2, will drop down to Class 1A, Div. 2.

Other changes include Liberty Hill (1343.5) moving up to Class 5A, Div. 2, Celina (850) and Carthage (824) moving down to Class 4A, Div. 2.  Abilene Wylie (1270) will remain in Class 5A, Div. 2.

New districts will be announced by the UIL in February 2020.
