The Early Police Department is preparing to participate in the last “Selective Traffic Enforcement Program” or STEP wave for the 2010 season.

The Early Police Department applied for and received a grant from Texas Department of Transportation to participate in the STEP waves during the 2010 year. Prior STEP waves have been during the Memorial Day and Independence Day holidays. The STEP wave pays officer’s overtime during the holiday periods and targets the violations of Speeding, Occupant Protection or Seat Belts and DWI with zero tolerance.

The STEP wave period for the Labor Day holiday runs from August 20th through Sept 6th. Motorist can expect more officers on the highways enforcing traffic offenses during these times.

The Early Police Department hopes these efforts will aid in reducing accidents and keep motorist safe in their travels.
