HPU Welcomes New Students with Jacket Journey

Howard_Payne_logosmallPlans are underway for Jacket Journey 2010 at Howard Payne University. Three hundred fifty-seven incoming first-year and transfer students are registered to attend the new student orientation weekend Thursday, August 19 – Sunday, August 22.

The four-day schedule will include: Chime In; the President’s Picnic; general sessions focusing on topics such as residence hall living and HPU traditions; small group sessions; recreation; dessert at homes of faculty members; a praise service led by the Baptist Student Ministry; community service activities; a street party; and a closing banquet followed by a dessert reception at the President’s House.

Thirteen student leaders, known as the Student Planning Committee (SPC), planned and will implement the many events for the incoming students. The SPC, advised by Tyler Sellers, director of student activities, and Dr. Brent Marsh, vice president for student life and dean of students, is divided into six work groups: Co-Directors – Jessica Silva and Skyler Maley; Registration – Ne’Lexia Galloway and Amanda Hendrix; Special Events –Kinsey Scroggins and Austin Smith; Leaders and Secret Service – Scott Perkins, Kaitlyn Zachary and Katey Lamberton; General Assemblies – Stefanie Beckwith and Adam Hardy; and Recreation – Wes Carroll and Daniel Gustavus.

Jacket Journey activities conclude on Sunday and fall classes will begin at HPU on Monday, August 23.
