Kevin Brandon Johnson
Born August 18, 1972, Kermit, Texas; died February 5th, 2026 at his home, Dale, Texas.
Kevin is greatly missed by his family and friends after his unexpected passing. He had a sweet, kind and loving spirit and often shared his hearty laugh and chuckle with those he loved and spent his workday with. Kevin had a great love of his family and enjoyed spending many happy times with both sets of grandparents, his aunts, uncles and many cousins at Lake Brownwood. He shared a deep love for his country and spent many phone calls on his drive home from work sharing stories with his dad, who also served with the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. It cannot go without being said that Kevin and his father, James Johnson, were two peas in a pod, just a few decades apart.
Kevin was born in Kermit, Texas, attended grade school in Canadian, Texas, graduated from Sanderson High School in 1992 and attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. It was not long into young adulthood before Kevin dedicated his life to the service of his country in 2001, graduating from the United States Naval Station in Great Lakes, Illinois, then on to Goose Creek, Georgia to nuclear submarine school, and remaining in Seattle, Washington until entering civilian life in 2008.
Kevin became employed with Samsung immediately thereafter and was most recently employed with Samsung Semiconductor in Austin, Texas. Technology was always a favorite past time of Kevin’s and he was fortunate to spend adulthood involved with the production of advanced chips for AI, 5G and other high-performance computing over the recent decades. Kevin always had a leg up on the rest of us, as he had the phone that was a not-yet announced generation, while we were using what we thought to be the latest and greatest. His chuckle and grin were a guaranteed response when we asked to see his phone.
Kevin’s U.S. Naval career involved extended periods in submarines where his family would live on faith, not knowing for sure when they would be able to hear from him next, and always so thankful to hear his voice again. Kevin’s Samsung career also involved travel overseas, which he enjoyed and was no doubt, excellent at both careers, loyally serving in both capacities.
During his youth, Lake Brownwood was one of Kevin’s favorite places to be, always enjoying fun times with both sets of grandparents: Gerald and Betty Hale, Jack and Louise Johnson; aunts and uncles: Shirley Hale, Larry and Vicki McCombs, Jack and Kathy Kelly, Dennis Kelly, John and Carol Johnson and Bucky and Dorothy Johnson and a wealth of cousins.
College years involved bunking up with his step-brothers Steve and Rob and Rob’s wife, Vicki, in Proctor, Texas, while they attended Tarleton. This allowed a time for friendships to develop among them as young adults and those moments are closely cherished and bring lots of laughter. West Texas friendships from the Eggelston‘s to the Vaughn’s were continued while at Tarleton, and hold a special place in the hearts of Kevin and his family. When Kevin’s father’s career required a move to a new location, the Eggelston family graciously allowed Kevin to stay with them in Sanderson for the final months, so he could graduate high school with his classmates. Sanderson friendships with George Eggelston and Kerri Vaughn and her family continued well past the high school and Tarleton years and into lifelong friendships.
After entering civilian life and moving to Austin from Seattle, Kevin was able to spend more time with his mother in Abilene, reconnect with his sisters, Alicia and Roxann and the families they had built. Kevin was a loyal older brother to his sisters, as well as the favorite uncle and he loved getting to know his nieces and nephews and watching them grow and participate in their events.
Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Hale Harris, maternal grandparents, Gerald and Betty Hale, paternal grandparents, Jack and Louise Johnson, uncle John Johnson and step-brother, Steve Goebel. Kevin is survived by his father, James Johnson, stepmother, Kay Johnson, sister Alicia Johnson Watson (Anthony), sister Roxann Johnson Horn (Chris), step-brother, Jimmy Goebel (Shelley), step-brother, Robert Goebel (Vicki), nieces and nephews Kaylyn, AJ, and Jace Watson, Angel and Brandon Horn, multiple step nieces and nephews, his many friends and most recently a great niece, Evangeline Watson.
