
BROCK – The Brownwood Lady Lions closed their softball season with a second extra-inning loss to District 6-4A champion Brock, 4-3, Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions (14-16, 2-8) split their first four games in district, but dropped the last six, including four by one run and three in extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Brownwood center fielder Adyn Lucas threw out Kayden Blue at home plate after Jayci Smith singled up the middle for the second out of the eighth inning. But Sloan Booth immediately followed with an RBI single down the left field line to plate Smith with the winning run.
The Lady Lions opened a 2-0 advantage in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI ground out by Brenda Allen that plated Kaylee Johnson, running for Kaydence Allen, who reached on an error to start the frame. Lucas then hit a rope past the Brock shortstop to put runners on second and third with no outs.
Brenda Allen followed with an RBI ground out to plate Johnson for a 1-0 lead, while Lila Mares then recorded an RBI ground out that brought home Lucas for a 2-0 edge.
Brownwood extended the cushion to 3-0 in the top of the fifth as Audrey Keas reached on an error with one out, then Hanah Campos doubled to left field. Carlee Burks plated Keas on an RBI single, but the Lady Lions were unable to add to the lead.
Brock (21-9, 10-0) then drew even with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
