Shirley McCoy Gamblin

GamblinShirley McCoy Gamblin, of Hewitt, Texas, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 8, 2014.  She succumbed to a long illness while in rehabilitation at Senior Care of Hewitt.  She had been residing with her husband, Charles Gamblin, at Stoney Brook in Hewitt.  They formerly had been longtime residents in Brownwood, Texas.

Mrs. Gamblin was born October 16, 1930, to her parents, Kyle and Katie Lee McCoy, in Indian Creek, Texas.  She was a 1948 graduate of Early High School and also attended Howard Payne University. She was a homemaker and, later, a secretary at Coleman Production Credit in Brownwood until her retirement.  Mrs. Gamblin loved to sing, especially at her church, Calvary Baptist in Brownwood.  She was a delight to those around her and she could sew and cook for 24 hours straight.

Mrs. Gamblin is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 66 years, Charles Gamblin of Hewitt, Texas.  Two daughters, Karen Gamblin Akins and her husband, Wynn, of Woodway, Texas and, Leann Gamblin Newton and her husband, Russ, of Houston, Texas.  Her love and joy of life were in her 5 grand children, Amy Akins Lewis and her husband, Jon, of Georgetown, Texas, Alyssa Akins Briggs and her husband, Jeff, of Plano, Texas and also Abby, Alex and Erin Newton, all of Houston, Texas.  She was further blessed by 2 great grand children, Darby and Brady Briggs of Plano, Texas.

Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood, Texas will have visitation from 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, November 11th and a graveside service officiated by a longtime family friend,  Rev. Lynn Starnes, at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas at 2pm.

The family wishes to thank the members and staff of First Baptist Woodway for their many acts of kindness, prayers and visits.  Special thanks go to her Godly friends and staff at Stoney Brook of Hewitt.  Mrs. Gamblin’s wonderful angels at Senior Care of Hewitt provided wonderful and loving care until her passing.  Further thanks are given to the many doctors caring for Mrs. Gamblin, especially, Dr. Mike Loden and Dr.Maydee Rosario.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood, Texas or your local Humane Society.
