Off Mic With Ben Cox: Doing Nothing…And loving Every Minute Of It

bencox2I have long been a fan of the “lazy, do-nothing, relaxing” weekend day.

This comes as quite a shock to those who know me, I’m sure.

The kind of day where you get nothing of any discernible value accomplished, and feel VERY good about it.

I had one of those days recently, and I’d like to tell you about it. I had a very special someone in town for the day, and we decided that while we could go out and go to a movie, go to dinner, go and do etc. all day long and entertain ourselves, we would rather spend the time that we would spend in the car together on the couch.

We got some old movies from the video store, pizza, some beverages of choice, and a puzzle from out local big-box store here in town, and proceeded to make two deliberate dents in the couch cushions while working on our puzzle.

We joked, laughed, told stories, and learned things about each other and ourselves.

You know what? That was one of the most memorable and enjoyable days that I have had in many years.

It didn’t cost hardly anything at all, and is infinitely repeatable. Simply add puzzle or board game, good people, and food together in a comfortable living room, mix well, and let sit for several hours. As with most good recipes, it is also even better the next day.

This has made me think about the things that we place value on, and also how we interact with our friends and loved ones.

Next time you’re at a family gathering, either around the dinner table or in the living room on the sofa, look around at everyone. Are they talking and laughing? Or are they all on their phones/tablets/devices?

If it’s the latter, simply apply the recipe from above, season to your own personal taste, and serve hot or cold. It’s sure to please.
