Bangs baseball splits first two games at Brown County Tournament

BANGS – The Bangs Dragons posted a 1-1 record Thursday to open play in the Brown County Baseball Tournament on their home turf.

Following a 16-3 loss to Tolar, the Dragons bounced back with a 17-1 victory over Ballinger.

Against Ballinger, the Dragons trailed 1-0 going to the bottom of the third inning where Bangs struck for a dozen runs. The Dragons tacked on five more in the bottom of the fourth.

Bangs tallied 11 hits, drew five walks and took advantage of six errors.

Conner Bible led the way with three hits for the Dragons followed by two each from Hunter Newton and Zack Ferguson, and one apiece by Hunter Crowell, Kade Minshew, Brayden Gatlin, and Brody Newton, who tallied a team-best two RBIs. Crowell, Minshew, Gatlin, Ferguson, Weston Scantling, Hunter Newton and Kenny Cole each recorded an RBI as well.

Minshew tossed all four innings and gave up one run on one hit with seven strikeouts and a walk.

In the loss to Tolar, Bangs scored all its runs in the bottom of the first but yielded four in the third, seventh in the fourth and five runs in the fifth inning.

The Dragons mustered four hits – two by Cole and one each from Bible and Ferguson. Skyler Minshew finished with two RBIs.

Skyler Minshew, Hunter Newton, Brody Newton and Bible gave up a combined six earned runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and 12 walks.

Bangs (2-1) will host Eastland at 2 p.m. Friday and Comanche at 11:30 a.m. Saturday to close out tournament action.
