According to information provided by Sheriff Bobby Grubbs, on March 3, 2010, at about 3:00 pm, Brown County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were conducting two methamphetamine investigations and arrested 3 suspects almost simultaneously.  In both investigations, CID Deputies learned of methamphetamine trafficking on the part of the suspects mentioned below.

In the first investigation, with the assistance of the Adult Probation, deputies Jason Benefield, Scott Bird, and Carlyle Gover seized methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and drug packaging material after the officers searched the residence of Randy and Sandra Perkins in the 1500 block of Terrace Drive in Brownwood.  Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Brown County Jail for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) Penalty Group 1, 1g <4g, a second degree felony. Both were on probation.

Almost simultaneously, in a separate investigation, Deputy James Stroope and Sergeant Jimmy Simpson established surveillance on a vehicle parked near an auto parts business on Commerce Drive. Acting on information that Edward Slayton was trafficking in methamphetamine, deputies followed the vehicle after it left the business. Slayton briefly tried to elude the officers, almost striking oncoming vehicles, and then pulled over in a convenience store parking lot on CC Woodson in Brownwood.  Deputies conducted a search and seized approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and $1546.00 in US Currency.  Edward Slayton was arrested and booked in the Brown County Jail for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) Penalty Group 1, 4g < 20g, a first degree felony. Slayton was also on probation.

According to Sheriff Grubbs, the above arrests are a result of an ongoing initiative targeting methamphetamine trafficking in Brown County.  Several search warrants and numerous arrests have been made over the past 3 months and additional arrests are expected as the investigations continue in cooperation with other agencies. Brown County Sheriff’s Office CID Investigator Carlyle Gover is case agent.
