HPU Tennis Teams Lose to Dallas Baptist University

tennis_logoThe Howard Payne men’s tennis team lost to Dallas Baptist University 3-6 in non-conference action at the Nabors Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.

Howard Payne picked up points in the #2 doubles, #3 singles and #6 singles. The doubles team of Ross Sidman and Raymond Borjas won 9-8(7-4) in the #2 doubles spot.

Jeff Toyne won 6-4, 6-3 in #3 singles while Will Thomas got the win in #6 singles 6-2, 6-4.

The Jackets now stand at 2-6 on the year. They will travel to Orlando, FL this weekend to take on the Univ. of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and McKendree University.

Doubles competition
1. Bronson Vaughan/Richard Abel (DBU) def. Chris Sutton/Edward Martinez (HPU) 8-5
2. Ross Sidman/Raymond Borjas (HPU) def. Josh King/Nick French (DBU) 9-8 (7-4)
3. Phillip Allen/Clint Baird (DBU) def. Jeff Toyne/Will Thomas (HPU) 8-2

The Howard Payne women’s tennis team fell to Dallas Baptist University in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at the Nabors Tennis Center.

Maddie Daugherty played well for Howard Payne but lost in the end, 6-1, 6-3 in #1 singles. Daugherty along with double partner Cassie Emerson also lost in #1 doubles 8-3.

Howard Payne now stands a 1-7 on the year and will play next on March 26th in Kerrville versus Schreiner University.
