comptrollerlogoTexas State Comptroller Susan Combs released May sales tax allocation numbers this week reflecting March sales with Brownwood, Early and Bangs all showing steady increases from the previous month.

The City of Bangs was up more than 9%, Early more than 7% and Brownwood gained over 6% as compared to the same month last year.  Blanket saw a significant drop of -44.22% from the same period in 2013.  Brown County as a whole was up in sales tax collections so far this year.

Combs will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their May local sales tax allocations totaling $716 million, up 7.1 percent compared to May 2013.

“Growth in sales tax revenue was spurred by increases in the telecommunications sector and services sector,” Combs said. “Increased business spending in the wholesale trade sector also contributed to the latest monthly gain. This marks 49 consecutive months of growth in sales tax collections.”
