Betty Beard, 85, of Lipscomb TX passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Brownwood, TX.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, from 5-8 PM at Hughes Funeral Home in Canadian, TX. Graveside rites will be Wednesday, January 16, at 2PM in the Lipscomb Cemetery with Rev. Howard Quiet officiating.

Betty was born February 5, 1927, in Vici, OK. She graduated from Higgins High School and attended Amarillo College to study journalism. In 1947, she moved to Woodward, OK to work as a reporter at the Woodward Daily News. While working there she met her future husband Don Beard. They were married on June 6, 1948, in Lipscomb.

Survivors include her husband, Don Beard of Brownwood and daughter Monica Beard of Brownwood and Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her brother, William M. Merydith, and her parents Lillie and Morris Merydith all of Lipscomb.
