langstonOn Sunday morning, January 13, 2013, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Bangs. Burial will follow at Bangs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, 800 Center Ave., Brownwood. Zena Catherine Heath was born to Henry Duncan and Clemmie Alma Seale Heath on November 20, 1918, in Comanche TX. The family moved to Brownwood, TX when she was two years old. Catherine graduated from Brownwood High School in 1937 and from Howard Payne College 1941 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English.

She taught grades 6th through 8th language arts in Olden, TX where she met the love of her life, James Roland Langston and were married on July 6, 1945. Jim and Catherine had four children, Sherry, Nancy, Rusty, and Donna. They lived in Brownwood until 1956 when they moved to Freeport, TX where Jim worked for Dow Chemical. Although Catherine didn’t teach again until 1973, she busied herself being a wife and mother. Her natural gift of teaching was put to use at West End Baptist, Freeport TX, teaching sunbeams and Vacation Bible School. She loved to serve the Lord and she loved children.

Jim and Catherine moved back to Brownwood in the summer of 1970. Catherine Langston resumed her teaching career in 1973 when they moved to Fort Hancock TX. She taught 2nd grade there until they moved to Clint TX, in 1975, where she taught her favorite – 1st grade until 1985 when she retired and moved back to Brownwood . She never tired of telling stories of her teaching days and the many precious children she taught how to read.

Catherine loved to bake, sew, and read. She spent her retirement years tirelessly sewing things for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always busy doing something. In her later years she spent her time reading and working puzzles.

She is survived by her children Sherry and Bill Taylor of Clute, TX,, Nancy and Jim Burnett of Bangs, TX., Rusty and Melissa Langston of Omaha, Nebraska, and Donna and Brad Friesen of Plains, TX. Her grandchildren are Michelle and Chris Thomas, Paul and Lisa Taylor, Billy and Alinda Taylor, Chuck Burnett, Mike and Jenn Burnett, Brianne and Jeff Suggs, Kimbra and Zach Tharp, Randa Burnett, Allison and Bryan Taylor, and Amber Friesen, and her 15 great-grandchildren Ashley, Bethanie and Jonathan Thomas, Austin and Sara Taylor, Paul Jr., Luke and Claire Taylor, Harrison and Heidi Burnett, Carlyn, Jayden, and Joseph Suggs, Aidyn Taylor and Isla Hope Tharp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim. Catherine was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Condolences may be left for the family at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com,
