A memorial service for James Melvin “Hillbilly” Sanford, age 40 of Brownwood and formerly of Tennessee will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the New Beginnings Church in Brownwood with Kelly Crenshaw officiating. He will be cremated and a celebration of his life will follow with food served to those attending and the dress will be casual.

He was born March 29, 1981 in Houston the son of Melvin Glen Sanford and Charlotte Jane White. James was engaged to Michelle Moslely and had worked as a carpenter most of his life doing construction work.

He is survived by his father, Melvin G. Sanford and wife Judy of Tennessee, his brother, Howard G. Sanford of Tennessee, his fiancé, Michelle Mosley of Brownwood, his son, Julian Ortega of Brownwood, three grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother, and several aunts and uncles.
