Bangs routs Cisco, falls to Jim Ned in tournament action; Early rolls past Clyde

TUSCOLA – The Bangs Dragons cruised to an 18-4 win over Cisco before falling to host Jim Ned, 9-3, in their final two games at the Jim Ned baseball tournament Friday.

In the win over Cisco, Bangs (6-5-1) scored in every inning. The Dragons scored three runs in the first inning, four in the second, seven in the third and four more in the fourth.

Bangs’ 14-hit attack featured two home runs from Brayton Wedeman, who drove in four RBIs; and a home run, a triple and six RBIs from Ethan Cortez; a home run, a double and six RBIs from Ethan Sanchez; two hits from Angel Arias; and one each by Guy Powell, Hunter Bernal, Hunter Newman and Ethan Ethridge.

On the mound, Arias and Ethridge combined to allow one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. The Bangs defense committed five errors.

Against Jim Ned, the Dragons fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and never recovered.

Bangs mustered just four hits by Powerll, Cortez, Wedeman and Ethridge. Cortez and Ethridge also picked up an RBI apiece.

On the mound, Cortez, Wedeman and Ethridge teamed up to yield six earned runs on nine hits with five walks and one strikeout.

In other baseball action, the Early Longhorns knocked off Clyde, 10-1, and Cisco, 12-2, while falling to host Jim Ned 7-4, in three tournament games Thursday and Friday.

Early opens District 8-3A play at home against Millsap at 7 p.m. Friday while Bangs hosts Comanche at 7 p.m. Friday
