Darrell Jene Modgling, 79, of Zephyr passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020. A graveside service will be held in the Zephyr Cemetery Pavilion at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

Darrell was born July, 13, 1941 to W Q and Ethel Odessa Modgling in Zephyr. He moved around a lot with his parents growing up due to his father working in the union. This allowed him to visit many different states and make friends all over. He returned to finish his time in High School at Zephyr. Darrell joined the Army National Guard and was assigned to active duty for 6 months out of a 6 year term in the guard. Darrell worked for Bell Helicopter for a short period before going to work for the Texas Highway Department. While with the department he went to Texas A&M to become a heavy equipment operator and worked with the state until retirement after over 25 years. Darrell married Rosa Denson in April of 1964 and they were blessed with 2 children. He always had livestock of some kind and enjoyed taking care of cattle and horses. Darrell was raised in a large family in the Zephyr area and his family and his community meant the most to him.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Rosa Modgling; 2 sons, David & Darwin Modgling; grandchildren, Treyson, Torrey & Zachary; great granddaughter, Lucy Monroe; brother, Buck Modgling; sister, Debbie Brown and a host of extended family & friends.

Online Condolences, memorials & tributes can be shared with the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
