The Brownwood High tennis team opened District 6-4A action with an 18-1 home win over Glen Rose Thursday afternoon.

“It was good to open up with a win for the first district match,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “Unfortunately, Aaliyah Uvalle’s undefeated singles record was cut short today due to an ankle injury. Hopefully she’s back on court next week.”

Picking up doubles wins for the Lions were No. 1 Mo Goff and Peter Le (6-0, 6-2 over Caden Schinagel and T.J. Bradberry), No. 2 Julian Lares and Taylor Wallace (6-0, 6-2 over Nicholas Coker and Landon Bope) and No. 3 Dillan Gatlin and Nathan Ramos (6-0, 6-4 over Clayton Gottfried and Alex Herrera).

Collecting doubles wins for the Lady Lions were No. 1 Aaliyah Uvalle and Lillian Jonescue (6-1, 6-1 over Hazel Hawkins and Laney Whitefield), No. 2 Victoria Ramos and Aishwarye Nigalya (6-0, 6-1 over Hannah Balkenbush and Ali Moss), and No. 3 Labritaney Pollard and Tatum Dehart (6-0, 6-0 over Casey Herrera and Ushna Dhakal).

Earning the mixed doubles win was the tandem of Victor Hernandez and Natalie Mares (6-4, 6-2 over Colton McDonald and Sarah Bope).

Notching singles wins for the Lions were No. 1 Goff (6-3, 6-1 over Schinagel), No. 2 Le (6-2, 6-2 over Bradberry), No. 3 Hernandez (6-2, 6-4 over McDonald), No. 4 Lares (6-0, 6-2 over Coker), No. 5 Gatlin (6-2, 6-0 over Gottfried) and No. 6 Wallace (6-0, 6-1 over Bope).

Claiming singles wins for the Lady Lions were No. 2 Jonescue (6-4, 6-1 over Whitefield), No. 3 Ramos (6-0, 6-0 over Bope), No. 4 Pollard (6-0, 6-0 over Balkenbush), No. 5 Dehart (7-5, 6-2 over Moss) and No. 6 Hannah Netherland (6-4, 4-6, 10-8 over Herrera).

Brownwood (3-2, 1-0) will be back in non-district at 8 a.m. Saturday as Sweetwater visits. The next district match for the Lions and Lady Lions falls Sept. 24 at Gatesville.
