commissionercourtarticlepicBrown County Commissioners took no action on two agenda items Monday and have set a special meeting for Thursday to take up the items again.

The county was to consider approving a memorial for Cpl. Tevan Lee Nguyen, but due to an error on the agenda that incorrectly listed the location of the memorial, Commissioner Precinct 1 Bob Clark said they will have to re-agenda the item.   The correct location is County Roads 237 & 239, according to Clark.

In a supplemental agenda item Monday, the county was also scheduled to open and possibly accept bids for interoperable communication equipment for Brown County, but had to wait until at least Thursday to allow the two week time period for publication to open bids.

The county will take up these agenda items again as well as consideration of a burn ban on Thursday, May 24th at 9:30am in a special called commissioners court meeting.

In an unrelated agenda item, Brown County Commissioners received a signed petition on Monday from residents living along County Road 327 asking for pavement.

Brown County resident Jeff Meadows presented the petition to commissioners and outlined the need for the road work.

“Everybody on our road has signed a petition to get it paved because it is rough, a main thoroughfare for everyone to get out to the highway,” Meadows said.  “We really would like to have something done to it.”

Meadows said that there have also been several accidents on the road because of dust hampering visibility.

Precinct 3 commissioner Richard Gist said that two mile stretch of County Road 327 is one that the county is considering paving in the future.

“It is one of the roads that is anticipated to be paved,” Gist said. “I have indicated in the future that we would like to pave that road.”

Meadows told commissioners that he and other residents along the road would provide water for the pavement project, trucking for rock, and a staging area to help in the process.

No action was taken, but Gist said that he appreciated the residents of the area bringing the issue to him.

In other items addressed in Monday’s commissioners court.

*Commissioners discussed but took no action to implement a burn ban.

*Commissioners approved a lease for a new road grader for Precinct 4 in a 5 year lease for $245 per month.
