Vermell Newman Hetzel Young

VermellYoungMemorial services for Vermell Newman Hetzel Young, age 78, of Notrees, Texas and formerly of Lake Brownwood and Santa Anna will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Netherton Funeral Home & Cremations.  Reverend Richard Hetzel will be officiating.  A private family burial will be held at a later date.  Mrs. Young died June 23, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Vermell was born September 25, 1932 in Coleman County, Texas the daughter of the late Walter and Winnie (Parrish) Newman.  She grew up and attended school in Santa Anna.  She was married to Taylor Valory Hetzel, Sr; he preceded her in death in 1956.  She later married Floyd Young, who also preceded her in death.  Vermell graduated from the Stamps Baxter School of Music and was an accomplished piano player with emphasis on gospel music.  She played the piano for her parents’ gospel group Happy Hitters, as well as many churches, weddings and funerals.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her children, Taylor Valory Hetzel, Jr and wife, Beverly, of Kingman, Arizona, Walter Hetzel and wife, Sheila, of Temple and Carolyn (Hetzel) Daily and husband, Kenny, of Coffeyville, Kansas; grandchildren, Tammy Hetzel, Taylor Valory Hetzel III, Shane Gotcher, Perry Daily, Kenan and Lacy Daily, Lyssa and Josh Johnson, Eden Daily and Hope Daily; and four great grandchildren.
