A signing ceremony was held Monday afternoon at the Multipurpose Athletic Center for nine members of the Brownwood High School Class of 2026 who will continue their athletic and academic careers at the next level.
Maddi Scott will join the cheer program at Hardin-Simmons following graduation.
Scott said of the opportunity to cheer in college, “It means so much. I’ve been cheering for as long as I can remember, doing competitive when I could barely walk. Getting to continue to spend the next four years doing this, I’m so happy and grateful.”
Regarding the decision to attend Hardin-Simmons, Scott said, “My first priority in choosing a college was that they shared the same faith base that I do. Hardin-Simmons is strong in their faith and supports me and stands behind me in all my faith-based choices. Further along, I want to pursue a job behind my faith-based Christian beliefs.”
Reflecting on her fondest memories as a Brownwood High cheerleader, Scott said, “It’s probably our cheer sisters. Having little girls look up to you and knowing that you’re basically their everything, I was one of those little cheer girls and I thought the world of them. Getting to be a bigger cheer sister has been so amazing.”
Scott – who was also a member of the volleyball and powerlifting programs her senior year – will study Psychology and faith-based studies at Hardin-Simmons with the intent to become a faith-based therapist.
Brownwood cheer coach Heather Hohertz said of Scott, “Maddi represented us with pride. She’s a leader and Hardin-Simmons is getting a good one, not only a good cheerleader, but a good person. Maddi, don’t ever lose your spirit or your smile, and continue to represent Brownwood ISD with pride. I know you’ll do great things at Hardin-Simmons.”
