
CORPUS CHRISTI – Two-time defending Class 2A boys golf state champion Walt Thompson won the Region IV-2A tournament, and the Goldthwaite Eagles qualified for state with a second-place team performance at Lozano Golf Center.
Thompson finished with a two-day total of 150, three shots clear of runner-up Cade Dudney of Mason (153).
As a team, Goldthwaite trailed only Mason as the Eagles carded a 671 team score, 40 strokes behind the Punchers and 21 shots clear of third-place Yorktown.
Joining Thompson at state from Goldthwaite will be Scott Reynolds with a 36-hole regional score of 168, Owen Campbell with a 176, Brady Deris with a 177, and Drew Bristol with a 201.
The Class 2A boys state golf tournament will take place April 27-28 at Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.
