KILLEEN – A five-run third inning carried the Brownwood Lady Lions to a third straight victory, 6-3 over Class 2A Holland, Friday morning in Killeen softball tournament action.

Trailing 2-1, the Lady Lions started the third with Audrey Keas reaching on a single, followed by an RBI triple from Hanah Campos that evened the score at 2. Lila Mares then singled home Campos with one out, pushing Brownwood in front, 3-2.

The Lady Lions tacked on three more insurance runs in the frame as Carlee Burks singled and Brenda Allen walked to load the bases. Kaydence Allen followed with a bases loaded walk for an RBI and a 4-2 Brownwood lead, while Maitlyn Esquivel delivered a two-out, two-RBI single to right field to cap the scoring.

Brownwood struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning Adyn Lucas doubled with one out and scored when Mares reached on an error.

Holland grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the top of the second inning and tacked on its final run in the fourth inning.

The Lady Lions collected seven hits – one each by Campos, Lucas, Mares, Burks, Esquivel, Keas, and Amarrea Thomas.

In the circle, Kaydence Allen pitched all four innings and yielded three earned runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and five walks.
