Students from Brownwood Middle School’s (BMS) Advanced Audio/Visual Production (A/V) class took an exciting step into the world of media production during their annual field trip on Thursday, February 12. The group visited local radio station KOXE/KBWD at home in Brownwood before making the trip to tour KTAB/KRBC, a TV news station in Abilene, Texas.

Led by teacher Ben Cox, the outing provided hands-on insights into real-world applications of audio-visual skills. Students were able to get an up-close look at the diverse career paths available within the field of broadcasting.

“We take an annual field trip to visit KTAB/KRBC, and this year we also went to KOXE,” said Cox. “The trip highlights possible jobs that can be done with a background in A/V, including on-air talent, production of commercials, marketing, meteorology, camera work, and radio production. It’s a fun way to let students experience the lessons we have learned in class in a real-world environment. They asked great questions, and one student, McLayne Murray, even got the opportunity to be on the air on KBWD.”

The experience not only reinforced classroom learning but also inspired students to envision future opportunities in the dynamic field of media.
