Darlene Friar, 85, of Brady, Texas passed away on January 29, 2026, in College Station, Texas. Darlene was born March 4, 1940, in Brady to Ali Winston and Ella Marie (Squires) Winston. She married Clarence Friar on October 26, 1957, and they spent the next 57 years together until his death in 2014. They attended First Baptist Church in Brady. Darlene loved Brady and spent most of her life there. She had many friends throughout her life in Brady. During the late 1950s and early 1960s she worked as a telephone operator in Brady. Later she worked in the bookkeeping department at Brady National Bank. When time allowed she and her husband would vacation in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Darlene was a devoted wife and mother. Her focus was on raising her three children. Darlene also loved First Baptist Church in Brady where she was a member for over 60 years and spent several years working at the food pantry. In 2023, Darlene moved to College Station, Texas to be closer to family. While in College Station she made many friends. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family there. She liked attending volleyball and softball games at Texas A&M with her family. While in College Station, she attended Church with her son and daughter-in-law.
Funeral Services for Darlene Friar will be held on Friday, February 6th, 2026, at 1:00PM at First Baptist Church in Brady with Dr. Randy White officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00pm to 7:00PM at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Darlene is survived by her sons, Tommy Friar and wife Tamara of Taylor, TX and Kevin Friar and wife Dana, of College Station, TX; daughter, Stacy Mayfield, and husband Johnny, of Georgetown, TX; as well as seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and many friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Friar, her parents, sister, and brother.
