John Keith Choate, age 60, of Brady, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at his residence in Brady. John was born on February 1, 1965, in Anaheim, California, to Lanny Derrril Choate and Diana (Fowler) Choate. John was raised a Catholic and grew up in and graduated high school in McAlester, Oklahoma. As a young adult, he was severely injured in an automobile accident that left him disabled. Even with his physical limitations, he worked as a sales associate for Kirby Vacuum Cleaners for several years. He was a very generous and caring individual. He was very proud of his Choctaw Indian heritage, which he instilled in his sons. He told them about his great-grandfather, who had to lie about his heritage, because the railroad would not allow Indians to work there. He was a fun, loving father to his sons and his biggest desire was for his boys to be close. He enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, being outdoors, and spending time with his sons. He enjoyed his morning coffee, reading Koonts and Steven King novels, and always had a joke to tell. He was very loved and will be missed.
John Choate’s wishes were for his remains to be cremated. No services are planned currently. Friends may view and/or sign John Choate’s online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.
John is survived by his loving sons Chris Choate and wife Anne of Austin, Texas and Justin Choate of Austin, Texas; sisters Cindy Gribnitz of Florida and Karri Egger of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
