

LEANDER – Midway through the Class 1A boys golf state tournament at Crystal Falls Golf Course, the May Tigers are in fourth place as a team and Zephyr’s Tripp Ballard is the seventh place individual.
The Tigers fired a 362 team score Monday, which trailed only first-place Wildorado (337), second-place D’Hanis (347) and third-place Abbott (352).
Meanwhile, Ballard posted an 81 Monday, which is five shots out of medal position behind co-leaders Bo Bradley of Texline and Hunter Corman of Wildorado (74) and third-place Will Thomason (76).
For May, Kobey Morris carded an 86 trailed by JD White with a 90, Mikey Scheriger with a 92, Hunter Seider with a 94, and Riley Ball with a 102.
Also, Sidney’s Grant Torres recorded an opening round 92 as well.
The final 18 holes of the two-day, 36-hole event will be played Tuesday.
