Henry Wied, City of Brownwood Public Works Department Director, addresses the Brownwood City Council Tuesday morning regarding the purchase of a new haul truck.

During Tuesday morning’s meeting, the Brownwood City Council authorized the purchase of a 2020 haul truck for the Fleet Department at a cost of $72,235.30 by MHC Kenworth from Abilene.

City Staff solicited for proposals for a used haul truck for the Fleet Department which will replace a 1984 federal surplus truck. One bid was received that met all the specifications but the following:

  • Odometer reading less than 200,000, but the odometer reading is 268,487
  • Cummins X15 engine, but it is has a Cummins MX 13 engine
  • 46,000-pound rear axle, but it has a 40,000-pound rear axle

The truck will come with a one-year 100k mile warranty on the major components. The budgeted amount for the truck is $70,000. The 1984 federal surplus truck will be moving to the Landfill replacing a 1969 federal surplus truck. This trucks primary purpose is to move the demo excavator around to each site and haul equipment and trucks to dealers for repairs.

The Council also approved a revised individual and new shared hangar lease contract templates.

The Brownwood Regional Airport currently has two large hangars the City leases space out for multiple aircraft. It has come to the attention of the City that the lease of this space hasn’t been utilizing a lease agreement. Additionally, the City has had a few problems with damages to aircraft within these hangars that no one has claimed responsibility for.

To minimize this in the future, the requirement of the lease agreement will only allow City Staff to move these aircraft in and out of the hangar. The new shared lease agreement is very similar to the verbiage of the standard lease agreement with exception to the movement of aircraft only being conducted by Staff. The new verbiage that was added to both contracts is an FAA “subordination clause,” and the Airport Board approved the contracts on March 26.

During the citizen’s comments portion of the meeting, Ashwin Pokharel with Deja Vu Hookah Lounge at 413 Center asked the Council to consider pushing back the cutoff time for serving alcohol in public establishments from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m.
