SAN ANGELO – The Brownwood Lady Lions were able to load the bases in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn’t push across a run as Class 6A San Angelo Central held on for a 2-1 victory Tuesday night.

The seventh inning for the Lady Lions (2-5) started with singles by Jakayla Peek, Tynlea Wilson and Karina Mata but Carlee Burks grounded into a double play. Jeniffer Romero was then intentionally walked, but a ground out by Lila Mares ended the game.

Brownwood scored its only run in the second inning as Maitlyn Esquivel singled, Peyton Pena reached on an error and Peek singled to load the base. An RBI ground out by Wilson brought home Pena.

Central scratched across its two runs in the fourth on a lead-off home run by Sofia Rudolph and an RBI sacrifice fly by KK Saldivar.

Wilson yielded two earned runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts and one walk, while the Lady Lion defense committed three errors.

Offensively, Brownwood tallied six hits – two by Peek and one each by Esquivel, Pena, Wilson, and Mata.

The Lady Lions will be back in action Thursday at 4:40 p.m. against Junction in the Llano tournament, then host Brady at 6 p.m. Friday before returning to the Llano tournament Saturday to battle Ingram Tom Moore at 1:30 p.m. and a yet to be determined foe at 4:30 p.m.
