The Early Visitors and Events Center issued the following press release:

It’s officially time for the third annual Courts and Controllers event hosted by Visit Early, Howard Payne University, and Mobile Game Drop on March 23rd, 2024 beginning at 2 PM at McDonald Park in Early, Texas. At Courts and Controllers, you can take part in either a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a 3-on-3 volleyball tournament, or a Super Smash Brothers video game tournament!

The adult division will be receiving cash prizes of $500 for first place and $250 for second place in the basketball and volleyball tournaments. The Junior High and High school divisions will receive trophies and t-shirts for the First-place and second-place winners. The gaming tournament will have one winner who will take home all $500 and the second-place winner will receive $250. Winners will be announced at the end of the day when the tournaments have commenced.

Howard Payne University will be facilitating the basketball and volleyball tournaments with support from Visit Early.

The Men’s basketball team will referee the basketball games and keep score while the Women’s Volleyball Team will referee and keep score of the volleyball matches. The basketball games will each be 15 minutes long or the first team to 21 points. The volleyball games will each last a maximum of 25 minutes and the winner will be the result of the best of three sets to 25. The Smash Brothers Tournament will be overseen by HPU’s Esports Program inside the Mobile Game Drop trailer out of Dallas. His gaming trailer is equipped with multiple TVs inside where it is nice and air-conditioned and you’ll be able to see the tournament live from their outside screen!

Additionally, the 4-H Center will set up their games free for the public: gaga pit, 9-square in the air, cornhole, Spikeball, and other fun outdoor activities! Pogue Farms food truck will be on-site to fuel up for your gaming needs. The entry fee for all tournaments is 10 dollars per person, and attendance is free for those not playing in the games.

Go to www.visitearlytexas.com to register online or call the Events Center at (325) 649-9300.
