During Tuesday morning’s meeting, the Brownwood City Council unanimously approved the 36th Infantry Division Monument located at the Brownwood Coliseum be moved by the 111th Engineering Battalion to the Central Veterans Memorial and allow the Central Texas Veterans Committee to refurbish the monument.

“The 111th Engineering Battalion out of Camp Bowie has all the equipment and the ability to move that and the Council was very much in favor of moving that monument so that it can be more enjoyed with all the others at that city park,” said Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford.

The City Council also enter into an agreement with Texas Department of Transportation to rehabilitate the bridge at Morris Sheppard Dr. and South Fork Willis Creek and authorize the City Manager to sign the Advanced Funding Agreement

“This is one of our older Camp Bowie structures that had issues on the underside of the bridge in those metal archways that TxDOT is going to repair and there is no cost to the city,” Crawford said.

The ordinance that created the Martin & Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum Advisory Board was also repealed during Tuesday’s meeting.

“The advisory committee for the Lehnis Railroad Museum was established as the museum was being opened 15 years and we only had one staff member, so the need for volunteers was great,” Crawford said. “They performed a large function early on, but the museum no longer has the same structure now that we have more staff members and volunteers. The advisory committee has gotten to be difficult to coordinate with because of lack of a quorum, so the council did agree to eliminate the advisory council.”

Also Tuesday, the City Council ratified of the Brownwood Municipal Development District Board action to approve a Building Improvement Incentive Program (BIIP) grant in the amount of $22,500 to Sandy & Robert Snyder for a building located at 1064 W. Commerce. Junk & Disorderly Antique Mall will be constructing a new 3,2000 square foot building and moving from its current location at 1045 W. Commerce, BMDD Executive Director Ray Tipton told the council.
