The Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday afternoon issued the following information regarding a three-vehicle accident 1.9 miles south of Coleman on U.S. Highway 84 at 4:24 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, which claimed two lives.

John Roger Ortiz, 40, of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Rogelio Espinoza, 42, of San Antonio, perished in the accident. Mary Francene Nix, 72, of Coleman, suffered incapacitating injuries and was transported to Hendrick Medical Center.

The vehicles involved were a 2017 Nissan Frontier pickup, a 2016 Harley Davidson FLHR motorcycle and a 2004 Harley Davidson FLSTCI motorcycle.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 was traveling north on US Highway 84. Vehicles 2 and 3 were traveling south on US Highway 84.  Vehicle 1 steered left across the center stripe striking Vehicles 2 and 3 head on.  This crash remains under investigation.
