Lady Lions drop three matches at Wimberley tournament

Miranda Northcutt (7) and the rest of the Brownwood squad will attempt to bounce back Saturday.

WIMBERLEY – The Brownwood Lady Lions dropped their first three matches at the Wimberley volleyball tournament Friday, falling to Class 4A Needville, 4A Davenport and private school San Antonio Keystone. Brownwood (1-4) will resume tournament action Saturday.

During a 26-24, 25-15 setback against Needville, Miranda Northcutt and Aubrie Felux led the Lady Lions with five kills apiece trailed by Ava Choate and Ibis Alvarado with four each, and Molly Oliver, Kassidy Wooten, Hannah Deen and Aniah Hines with two apiece.

Deen served a pair of aces while Felux, Hines, and Alvarado chipped in one each. Alvarado led the team with 49 assists.

In the 25-13, 25-11 loss to Davenport, Felux, Wooten and Northcutt notched two kills each while Deen, Hines and Alvarado finished with one apiece.

Wooten tallied the lone ace and Alvarado logged 28 assists.

Defensively, Hines recorded two blocks and Alvarado tacked on one.

The day concluded with a 25-11, 25-13 loss at the hands of San Antonio Keystone, as Choate and Felux led the charge with three blocks each followed by one apiece from Wooten, Northcutt, Deen and Hines.

Aces were contributed by Choate, Felux and Deen, while Alvarado finished with 32 assists.

Defensively, Hines and Alvarado tallied one block apiece.

Keystone’s roster includes the daughter of San Antonio Spurs’ legend Tim Duncan, who was on hand at the game.
