Brown County Commissioners met Monday morning and gave approval to the Sheriff’s Department to purchase a tactical van.

Sheriff Vance Hill made the request saying the van could hold all the equipment needed to respond quickly to incidents.  The van would be housed safely inside the Sally Port at the Law Enforcement Center.

The 2013 model van has 15,000 miles on it and will be purchased locally from Bostick’s for $35,069 using funds from the American Recovery Act.  County Commissioners approved the purchase plus up to an additional $10,000 to pay for radio communications equipment.

In other business from Monday’s County Commissioner’s meeting:

• The burn ban remains in place.
• Commissioners approved a preventative maintenance contract in the amount of $8,274 from Accurate Air Solutions for twice annual inspection and cleaning of the chiller and boiler systems in the courthouse and the 29 air handlers that make up the system.
• Commissioners heard an update on damage at Right of Passage/The Oaks buildings.  A collapsed sewer line has led to other structural damage at the facility.  Commissioners were told to expect quotes to repair the damage next Monday.  The line must be repaired first in order to proceed on working on structural issues.
