Evelyn Jean Jaynes, age 77, of Rising Star, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021. The family is hosting a celebration of her life at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 26, in the May Cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Jean was born on July 1, 1944 to Bill and Wandine Walker. Later in life, she settled in May, Texas. Jean served on the May Volunteer Fire Department for many years. She also served 25 years as a member of the Education Extension Association in May, and held all offices through those years. To pass the time, Jean would always make arts and crafts of some kind; earrings, necklaces, fans, and paintings. She also loved John Wayne and the color red. Her house was decorated with all kinds of cowboy and John Wayne Décor. She loved to be around her family and friends. Every year, the family would have a gathering at Sandy Beach for the family reunion. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and especially loved watching all of her grandkids laugh and play at the reunions. She also had quite the green thumb; Jean always had the nicest garden in town.

Jean is survived by her 2 son, Andy Herbert and Floyd Herbert; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Jaynes; and 2 daughters, Tracy Herbert and Stacy Herbert.

Condolences, memories and tributes can be offered to the family online at heartlandfuneralhome.net
