Seven Central Texas veterans are being honored this week at Shaw’s Marketplace.  In coordination with the local Daughters of the Republic of Texas chapter, Shaw’s is displaying posters of the veterans throughout the indoor shopping center.  The seven are:

*** Lt. Joe Harper, Army Air Corp, co-pilot B-17 bomber, European theater, WW-II

*** Lt. Joe W. Blagg, Army Air Corp, navigator B-17 bomber, European theater, WW-II

***  Private First Class Aubrey Ray Goodwin, U.S. Army, served in Germany after WW-II and the Korean War

***  Thomas Eldridge “Red” Bailey, U.S. Navy, aircraft mechanic, Pacific theater, WW-II

***  Lonnie Holland, U.S. Navy, Pacific theatre, WW-II

***  John H. Martin, Jr., U.S. Marines, Viet-Nam War

***  Dr. Homer B. Allen, U.S. Navy, Pacific theater, WW-II

Each poster tells stories of the veteran’s experiences in military service.  The display of posters is helping to promote the “National Wreaths Across America Day,” December 18, 2021.  On that date wreaths will be placed on the headstones of veterans buried in Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, as well as many other cemeteries nationwide.  To sponsor a wreath (cost is $15 each), log on to:  www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.

You can view the posters of the seven Brown County veterans at Shaw’s Marketplace through Sunday, November 14.  Hours are 9am – 6pm Thursday through Saturday, and 12 noon to 5 pm on Sunday.  Shaw’s Marketplace is located at 508 North Center in Brownwood.
