Jake Dennis, 78, of Coleman died Friday, September 24, 2021 at Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood.

He was born Darwin Jacob Dennis on December 20, 1942 in Asheboro, North Carolina to Howard Theodore Dennis and Merle Iona Graves Dennis.  Jake grew up in Asheboro and graduated from high school there.  After graduation, he proudly served four years in the United States Air Force and two years in the Reserves.  He was stationed on the Turkey and Russia border, intercepting radio transmissions.  On December 26, 1963, Jake married Patsy Genelia Calk in Coleman.  Shortly after their marriage, Jake and Patsy moved to Houston then moved back to Coleman in 1974.  Jake was a carpenter by trade and co-owned The Wood Shop with his wife, Patsy.

Jake never met a stranger.  He always had a smile, joke or story to tell—most of the time all three!  He helped anyone that asked.  He helped with building projects at North Coleman Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon.  And on Sunday nights, he enjoyed dinner and fellowship with his friends and family.

Left to cherish Jake’s memory are his children, Howard Dennis and wife, Nicole, of Silver Valley, Sylvia Clawson and husband, Len, of Coleman; eight grandchildren, Cynthia Dennis and Shane Lassiter of Abilene, Samantha Dennis of Abilene, Briana Dennis of Silver Valley, Ted Dobbins and fiancée, Jacey Newman, of Mertzon, Becca Dobbins and Matthew Wallace of Killeen, Katie Baker and husband, Sean, of Clayton, North Carolina, Sean Clawson and wife, Amanda, of Odessa and Sara Dillard and husband, Matt, of Coleman.  Also surviving are two sisters, Donnie Jean Brower of Asheboro, North Carolina, Rachel Galbraith and husband, Bill, of Fairbanks, Alaska; seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of wonderful friends, including his long-time friend, Sandra Priddy of Coleman.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patsy on June 8, 2012 and a brother-in-law, James Brower.

It was Jake’s wish to be cremated.  His family is honoring this wish.  There will be a private inurnment at the Silver Valley Cemetery at a later date.  Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

If you would like, you may give a charitable donation to the charity of your choice in Jake’s memory.

Those wishing to offer condolences and remembrances to the family, may do so via the virtual guestbook at www.stevensfuneralhome.com/obituary/Jake-Dennis.  Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Dennis family.
