Romelia Hurtado

Romelia Hurtado, age 78, of San Antonio, died Friday, September 10, 2021, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

She was born Romelia Alvarado on August 8, 1943, in Durango, Mexico, a daughter of Tomas Alvarado and Margarita Villa Alvarado. Romelia grew up in Mexico and Coleman. She married Jose Hurtado on January 14, 1963. Romelia enjoyed gardening and could grow anything she planted. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and loved cooking for all of them. Romelia was a homemaker and took wonderful care of her family.

Romelia is preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Agapito Hurtado.

She is survived by her husband, Jose Hurtado of San Antonio; three children, Oscar Hurtado and wife Irene of Early, Rocio Hernandez and husband Caesar of San Antonio, and Lillian DeLeon and husband Raul of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren, Kathy Pannell, Scott Hurtado, Amy Givan, Margaret Chaffin, Renee Hernandez, and Stephanie Hernandez; 7 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lino Alvarado of Mexico, and Enrique Alvarado of Mexico.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Romelia to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
