A reminder to those in agriculture, all Marks, Brands and Tattoos currently registered with the Brown County Clerk will expire on August 30, 2021. This includes those filed today or any time prior to August 30, 2021.  The renewal period for your Marks/Brands/Tattoos is August 31, 2021 through February 28, 2022.

Since 1981, Title 6, Chapter 144 of the TEXAS AGRICULTURE CODE, requires a brand or mark to be registered every ten years.

Any previously recorded Marks/Brands/Tattoos which have not been re-registered by the deadline of February 28, 2022 will be considered unclaimed and eligible for registration on a first come, first serve basis.

According to Brown County Clerk, Sharon Ferguson, renewal may be filed with her office Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, at 200 South Broadway, Suite 101, Brownwood, Texas 76801.

The recording fee for a mark, brand or tattoo is $26.00 for the first location and $5 for each additional location at the initial filing.  Added locations, at a later date, will be the same fee as new registration.

There is a Brand Application Form on the Brown County Clerk website:

www.browncountytx.org/page/brown.county.clerk.  Near the bottom of the page, look for Mark & Brand Information.

The application must be notarized.  No personal checks please.

For more information, call 325-643-2594.

Marks and Brands renewal is pursuant to Texas Agriculture Code 144.044.
