Celebrated Central Texas mural artist Calina Mishay Johnson will be painting a mural at Pat Coursey Park in Downtown Brownwood, March 15-20th. The design for the mural features wild horses running through water with vibrant colors and depiction of movement. This mural design pairs perfectly with the metal horses on the fountain at the park and offers a modern twist on the rural vibe of the area.

The Pat Coursey Park mural project was first conceptualized by Brownwood Municipal Development District Assistant Executive Director Marshal McIntosh as part of an ongoing effort to revitalize the historic downtown area. More murals are being planned with a variety of artists to enhance downtown for both residents and visitors.

“We’re thrilled to see Calina’s work find a home in our downtown area,” McIntosh said. “The design concept she submitted is going to be a favorite feature of the park for our residents as they visit the many wonderful shopping spots and entertainment venues popping up all over our historic downtown Brownwood.”

McIntosh also explained additional improvements to the park are expected to be completed by the Summer of 2021, including shade structures, picnic tables, and additional lighting.

Calina has completed numerous murals in Texas and has amassed a large fan following on social media. She plans to promote Brownwood while painting the mural downtown and has asked for a few “hot spots” to check out in the evenings. There’s no doubt residents will make Calina feel right at home in Brownwood.
