Funeral services for Garner Rice, 86, of Brownwood will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Trickham Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the funeral home.  Mr. Rice passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his home.

Garner Elgene Rice was born May 25, 1932 to James Frank and Bertha (Parrish) Rice at their home in Brookesmith.  He graduated from Brookesmith High School and Howard Payne University before being drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country.  Garner taught school in the towns of Gustine, Carbon and Gorman; and he was the superintendent at Lingleville ISD from 1962 until his retirement in 1992.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to old house playing dominoes and poker.  Garner loved riding around and listening to Brownwood Lions Football, watching Texas Rangers baseball and both UT and Dallas Cowboys football.

Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Benny Rice and wife, Denean of Brookesmith; daughters Dana Worrell and husband, Randy of Stephenville and Marsha Rice of Ft. Worth; grandchildren Randi and Ray Slayton, Rusty and Amber Rice and Tanner Stasey; and great grandchildren Tristen, Landon, Emma, Kelby and Kelton.

He was preceded in death by his parents ; wife, Verita Rice; brother, Delburn Rice and nephew, Wendell Rice.

The family would like to thank CMS Healthcare for the wonderful care they gave Garner.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lingleville ISD PTO Lead Memorial Scholarship Program.

Online memorials can be left at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com
