Brownwood News – The Brownwood Fire Department visited the children of the Pearl Griffin Memorial Latch Key Program on Monday, October 1st.

The firefighters educated children about how to escape a burning building safely, as well as having an evacuation plan with their family. The children were able to see a fireman fully suited up as they would if they saw him at an actual fire. Firefighters in full gear can often look intimidating to young children, especially in an emergency situation. Allowing the children to see the firefighters in their gear in an everyday environment helps familiarize them with the equipment and lessen fear.

The children were allowed to walk around the trucks as the firemen explained what the different tools were on the main fire engine, the ladder truck and two different brush trucks. Firefighters present for the event were: Lt. Justin Prince, Fire Fighter Brett Saywer, Driver Brent Bruton, Fire Marshal Buddy Preston with Nika, Administrator Gwen Stone, Lt. Chad Hill, Driver Blake Guthery, Captain Kevin Barcliff, Driver Matt Campbell, Fire Fighter Jesse Castillo and Fire Fighter
