Written by Rowonna McNeely – Heading home one afternoon, after picking Kiera up from daycare, Aaron stated, “Wow. I am so tired.”

Now in his defense, it had been a really hectic week. He had applied several car wraps, did some car maintenance and many other MacGyver things that he does at work.

I was just fixing to acknowledge his statement, when Kiera piped up from the back seat. “I was tired before you.”

Remembering how she had mentioned she was tired when she hopped in the car when we picked her up, I waited to hear Aaron’s response.

Glancing in the rearview mirror at Kiera, he replied kindly, “Yes, but I’m a different kind of tired than you.” He looked back to the road and continued on, “Remember Mrs. Tracey’s little car?”

“Yes. Her pretty little one?” She replied.

“That’s the one. Well, today I laid on the concrete floor and worked on it. When I work on her little car, it bangs me up a little.” He finished and I waited expecting her to accept what he said and move on.

“Dad? Don’t you have that red thing that you lay on with wheels?” She asked.

For those of you that don’t know what she is referencing, she is talking about a mechanic’s creeper, the ones that you lay on and roll under a car.

“Yes…” He replied.

“Doesn’t it have a little pillow on it?” She asked.

Curious to see where this was headed, I listened intently, holding my phone with my thumb poised over the memo button.

Aaron glanced at Kiera again in the rearview mirror. “Yes.” He answered.

“Then why are you whining?” She asked innocently.

Aaron hung his head as I burst out laughing. He glanced at me. “Go ahead.” He said.

I didn’t need any more encouragement as I quickly tapped my phone memo and made notes for my column.
