Press Release – National Infant Immunization Week is being celebrated this week at the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department. NIIW is held each year in April in order to focus the attention of the public on vaccines and vaccine preventable diseases. The focus of NIIW is on getting all children fully immunized by the age of two.

From April 24-28, the health department will be waiving the administration fee for children up to the age of three who qualify for the Texas Vaccines for Children program.

On April 29 the health department will be hosting the annual Kid’s Health Fair in recognition of National Infant Immunization Week. The fair will be held at the Depot from 10am until 2pm. The Depot is located at 600 E. Depot St. in Brownwood. The fair will include games, prizes, bounce houses, puppet shows, face painting, hot dogs and popcorn, and a cake walk. Vaccine information will be provided to parents and caregivers, and immunization staff will be on hand to answer questions. This year there will be representatives from some other service organizations in our area at the Kid’s Fair. Pregnancy Care Center, the KidSafe car seat program, Medicaid representatives and Family Services Center will be represented.

The Brownwood/Brown County Health Department urges the parents in our area to bring their children out to the NIIW Kid’s Fair on Saturday, April 29, at the Depot.

Questions about vaccines, vaccine preventable diseases and the NIIW Kid’s Fair can be directed to the health department at 325-646-0554.
