Leona Maye Gill Sherrod

SherrodLeonaLeona Maye (Gill) Sherrod, 83, passed into eternity on October 15, 2015, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She was born May 5, 1932, to the late Glenn Lee and Ethel Maye Gill.  Leona graduated from Brownwood High School in 1949 and Howard Payne University in 1952. She was the beloved wife of the late Jack. She and Jack enjoyed many things together including family, church, ranching, and travel.  She taught school for 35 years and found teaching both children and adults to read especially rewarding. In her retirement, she enjoyed painting, reading, and dancing. She was known for gracious living, generosity, and compassion.

She was the loving mother of Margaret (Rev. Gary) Rogers and Sandra (Professor Darrell) Dobbs.  She was the proud grandmother of Sharon (Rev. Tyler) McCaskill, Charles, Joseph, Theresa, Olivia, Gregory, Peter, Veronica, Julia, Miranda, and Susannah Dobbs, and Great-Grandmother of Harper and Elliot McCaskill. She is also survived by her dear sister, Lynn Schiller and close friend, Robert Ripp.  She also is survived by many other relatives and friends.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Jordan Springs Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas. Memorials can be made to a charity of your choice. Local arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
