Local Veterans will join District 8 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and their Posts and the Districts Ladies & Men’s Auxiliaries as they observe the sinking of the Battleship Maine, February 15, 1898, which began the escalation to war with Spain over Cuban Independence.  The public is invited to attend.

The observance will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21st at the VFW Post 6873 in Abilene, located at 1049 Vapor Trail, (across from Dyess AFB).

The war with Spain propelled the United States onto the world stage and also liberated Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and The Philippines Islands.
